But when the ITV show The Chase started and the contestants introduced themselves to presenter Bradley Walsh, many viewers debated whether a contestant looked his age
Chase viewers were distracted by the age of one of the contestants during Friday’s episode of the hit ITV game show.
A team consisting of Rebecca, 40, Philippa, 19, Joel, 34, and Paul, 57, competed against professional quizzer Mark Labbett, or The Beast, in the final nail-biting run for a cash prize.
But as the show began and the contestants introduced themselves to host Bradley Walsh, many viewers took to Twitter to discuss whether contestant Joel looked his age.
While one wrote: “34?! Paul looks much younger!!!!” Other viewers thought Joel looked wise beyond his years, with another writing, “This guy could be any age from 30 to 70.”
Another wrote: “Does anyone else think Joel looks older than 34?” as another cheekily said, “Haven’t the years been kind to him when he’s only 34?”
Another wrote: “34????” as another fan wrote: “34. Yeah right” next to a crying laughing emoji.
Another tweeted, “He’s 34 I would suggest he’s had a rough round of newspapers but he hasn’t had a real job yet…” while another social media user tweeted, “34 years young my butt Joel!”
This comes after contestants were similarly stunned earlier this week to see a 91-year-old contestant, who many suspected may have been the oldest contestant on the show.
Host Bradley was stunned on Wednesday’s episode of the game show when contestant Margot told the studio it was her 91st birthday.
At the start of the show, she said, “I’m Margot, 91, and a psychotherapist from Maidenhead.”
Bradley said: “Happy birthday Margot. 91. Congratulations. I have to say it’s exciting to have you here.”
She explained that a decade ago she wrote a memoir stating that she was born in Germany and moved to the east end of London in 1939.
She added: “I’m more surprised than you are that I’m still here at 91” and said she’d spend the ITV cash prize on a newfangled TV if she came out on top.
ITV viewers took to Twitter to express their surprise, with one writing: “Margot looks better at 91 than I did at 31”, while another wrote: “Hope I look as good as Margot at 91!”
A third chimed in, “Margot is 91 and looks 70 fair game to her,” as another social media user said, “Please make me look as good as Margot at 91.”
