Check your Android phone NOW after Google made big changes to app security

GOOGLE is making a massive change in how it handles app permissions on Android this week.

The tech giant is updating the rules app makers will have to follow from July 20, so stay alert.

A new data security section now appears under Apps you download from the Google Play Store.

Here developers have to specify what they do and don’t do.

But it comes at a price.

The Existing App Permissions tab appears.

As one expert points out, this is both good and bad.

The good thing is that the new data security information is much simpler.

However, the concern is that developers can choose what to say in it.

“The downside is that the information in the “Data Security” section is provided by the developer. So what is displayed there is up to them”, expert Mishaal Rahman explained.

Google has set a deadline of July 20 to make the changes.

The company said it will be on the lookout to sidestep the truth, although it admits it “cannot make any determinations on behalf of the developers as to how they handle user data.”

According to the official rules, developers are “responsible for providing full and accurate explanations in your app’s store listing on Google Play”.

“Google Play reviews apps against all policy requirements. However, we cannot make any determinations on behalf of the developers as to how they handle user data.

“Only you possess all the information required to fill out the data security form.

“If Google finds a discrepancy between your app behavior and your statement, we may take appropriate action, including enforcement action.”
