It’s also important to have a strong password.

Because falling in love with a hacker could be a serious double whammy as it gets into not only your Messenger but your main Facebook account as well.

But how can you tell if you’ve been hit when cyber attackers are so stealthy?

Here are some of the signs to look out for.

Archived chats

Once a hacker has access to your account, they are more likely to approach friends and family to get money from them than you are because they can now pretend you are you.

One way to cover their tracks is to message someone and archive the chat so you can’t see it on the main page.

To check your Messenger archive, tap your profile photo in the top left.

Then select Archived chats from the list where you see old messages hidden.

Look for new contacts you don’t know

Spam accounts will keep trying to add you.

Unless you accept them, they should not appear on your Messenger main page.

If you see someone from the list you don’t know, it could also indicate a hacker using your account.

A cell phone number that is not yours

You can add your mobile number to Facebook Messenger so you can send texts through the app.

But it also allows you to log in and reset your password, which is a great way for hackers to get into your account.

You can check which phone numbers have been added in the Messenger app on a mobile phone by tapping your profile photo and then go mobile number.

Choose Manage Cell Phone Numbers and look for any you don’t recognize.

If there are any, you can remove them.
