GOOGLE Maps has been beefed up with some big new features – including one that could be a lifesaver.
The tech giant is trying to increase security with even more location sharing options available to users.
You can already share your real-time location with a friend or loved one.
But now they can get a notification when you’ve entered and exited certain locations.
The firm says the feature is being rolled out to allow people to “coordinate schedules more easily and have peace of mind.”
“Let’s say you’re going to a concert with a group of friends,” said Amanda Leicht Moore, Google Maps Director of Product.
“If they’ve already chosen to share their location with you, you can set up an alert for the concert venue address so you can see when they’ve arrived and meet up quickly.
“You could also set up a notification to see when they left the venue – just in case you get disconnected.”
It’s one of three major additions now available on Google Maps.
Users can now explore global landmarks like never before with photorealistic 3D aerial photography.
Almost a hundred iconic sights such as London, New York and Barcelona are available.
That means you can get up close and personal with places like Big Ben and the Empire State Building.
Google also offers more bike route information.
For cyclists’ convenience, the app now also shows a breakdown of your journey, adding things like heavy car traffic, stairs and steep hills.
Meanwhile, bike route information for hundreds of cities will be rolled out “in the coming weeks.”
