Tuchel reflects on Chelsea’s season ahead of the final game

Chelsea hope to end a frustrating season in style when they host Watford at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues came just short of two recent finals against Liverpool, failed to defend their Champions League title after a dramatic defeat at the hands of Real Madrid and were eliminated from the Premier League title race after an encouraging start.

Factor in the ongoing issues off the field regarding ownership and the campaign will be one the club will be most excited about at the back.

However, the game against Watford offers an opportunity to end on a positive note and bid fans a farewell to some players who will be away in the summer.

Rüdiger opens at the exit

Antonio Rudiger will play his last game for Chelsea on Sunday and has spoken about the reasons why he decided to continue.

The German international has developed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League under Tuchel, but the Blues were unable to secure a contract extension.

Rudiger has claimed Chelsea went silent after some initial negotiations, prompting him to consider his options elsewhere.

Tuchel reveals Hodgson’s ambitions

The Watford boss will retire from football after Sunday’s game after being appointed mid-season by the Hornets. However, the former England boss could not avoid relegation and relegation has long been a certainty.

However, the results have not diminished Tuchel’s admiration for the veteran coach.

“Who knows? How old is he? 74? He doesn’t look that old and I’m happy to see him again,” he said.

“We met once before we played each other here in London to discuss performance. I was coach of Dortmund at the time and it was very impressive because he was super friendly and a gentleman and was very open about sharing his views and opinions. “
