Warning to the owners

The potential new owners of Chelsea has been warned that Champions League qualification is imperative for the team to ensure it doesn’t run like a spiral arsenal.

Several groups are vying to buy the London club following the sanctions imposed on former owner Roman Abramovich. Three possible options remain, and the winning bidder will find out next week.

Although the rapid change of ownership should prevent serious financial problems for the Blues as a result of the sanctions, vysyble’s John Purcell said it was imperative that Chelsea now remain a force on the European stage.

“If Chelsea continue to develop their commercial arm, they should be fine,” he said. “They have been quite successful in Europe and that has given them a commercial boost. Europe is crucial.

“We’ve seen in recent years what happens when you don’t qualify for Europe with Arsenal and when you don’t… United got away with it because they have a huge worldwide fan base and a commercial operation, but when you don’t in Europe will start to hurt every other year.”

Tuchel plays down the exit talk

Tuchel has rejected suggestions to leave the club in the summer.

The sanctions imposed on the Blues’ former owner Abramovich earlier in the season prompted some speculation that a number of key figures at the club could change at the end of the season, including the manager.

However, Tuchel has said he intends to remain in place throughout preseason and head into an intriguing 2022-23 season.

“From next season’s pre-season, we will do our best and I will put all my heart and knowledge into it,” he said.

Ba thinks about Gerrard Slip

Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba said he had no sympathy for Steven Gerrard after capitalizing on the ex-Liverpool skipper’s slip-up eight years ago.

The Reds appeared on course for a surprise title win under Brendan Rodgers but their challenge was derailed at Anfield as a provisional Chelsea side won 2-0. Ba scored the first goal after Gerrard lost his footing.

Speaking about the iconic moment eight years later, Ba said moments like this are part of the game.

“No, not really,” said the striker when asked if he had any sympathy for Gerrard. “Because that’s the game. You make mistakes and others take advantage of them. What Steven Gerrard has done for the world of football is enormous. But unfortunately that’s life. Not all stories can end in fairy tales.
