Mount on the edge of the same record

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is set to equal a Premier League record for English players on Thursday night when the Blues host Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.

Mount is having his best season yet for Chelsea with 11 goals and ten assists and is one of only three players in the top flight this season to have double-digit goals and assists. Of those direct goalscoring contributions, Mount has scored and provided an assist in six of his 31 Premier League appearances. The record for most goals and goals in the same game in a season by English players is seven.

Alan Shearer achieved this in the 1994/95 season en route to helping Blackburn Rovers win the Premier League title for the first and only time in their history. Harry Kane equaled Shearer last season in a season where he became the second player in the Premier League, after Andy Cole, to score and provide the most assists in the same season.

Collymore said: “No matter what industry someone works in, there is a clear line between professional behavior and amateur behavior and on Saturday Christensen fell into the latter category.”
