Thomas Tuchel in the race for a place in the Champions League

The sense of unease surrounding Chelsea has been building for weeks.

The club is not only going through a challenging phase off the field, performances have also declined significantly on the field. And after the 1-0 defeat against Everton last week, there are worries that a place in the top four is not necessarily guaranteed for Thomas Tuchel’s team.

This weekend, the Blues can effectively end those worries when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge. Ahead of next week’s FA Cup final against a red-hot Liverpool side, it seems essential that the team find some momentum from somewhere.

mirror sport has her latest Chelsea news as the team attempt to end a forgettable campaign on a high.

Tuchel hopes for property liquidation

Tuchel said he was confident the club would find a solution to the ongoing ownership saga as he received a positive update.

Chelsea must find new owners before the expiry of the special operating license imposed by the government since March 10. This comes after the club was sanctioned due to alleged links between former owner Roman Abramovich and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It was reported last week that Tuchel was told that Todd Boehly’s consortium had been granted preferred bidder status by Raine Group, and the manager gave an update on Friday from his perspective.

“I was told last week that we have a preferred bidder and things are moving forward,” revealed Tuchel. “It’s a pretty important week for the club but I was totally focused on the pitch. But after what I heard last week I’m confident.

“Release is always best because when the situation is clear, you can take action, make judgments, take action. Otherwise, you’re in a passive role, and that’s what we are now.”

Lukaku still expected to play an “important” role

Tuchel believes Romelu Lukaku can continue to play a huge role at Stamford Bridge in the years to come, despite the struggles he has endured since returning to the club.

Chelsea spent £97.5million to sign the Inter striker in the summer and he was expected to take the team to another level. However, he is struggling to show his best form and at the moment Kai Havertz and Timo Werner lead the pecking order.

As a result, some speculation has surfaced about a potential summer transfer, but Tuchel is adamant Lukaku can still make a positive impact at Chelsea.

“I always want him to play an important role,” he said. “Right now he is an important part of the squad for next season. There are no players who will leave or improve due to the situation.

“We signed a great player, we still have a great player. He didn’t come on [against Everton] because we had three substituted on and had to put one in for Jorgi at half-time. He has trained very well and may start tomorrow.”

Real Madrid’s success can give Chelsea money

Although he wasn’t really involved in Real Madrid’s remarkable run to the Champions League final, ex-Chelsea player Eden Hazard could help his former club get a cash boost should Los Blancos triumph against Liverpool.

Hazard was known as one of the best players in the world when he joined Madrid in 2019, although his time at the Santiago Bernabeu was shattered by a series of injuries.

However, if the Spanish giants win the European Cup, it would trigger a clause in the deal between Chelsea and Real, which in turn would result in the Blues receiving an extra payment.

Chelsea would reportedly rake in around £20m in bonuses if Carlo Ancelotti’s side add the Champions League to their La Liga success.
