Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Antonio Rudiger will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
The German defender’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season as the club were unable to tie him to a new deal before sanctions were imposed on club owner Roman Abramovich. With Chelsea Unable to settle financial transactions due to the sanctions, the Blues have been unable to renegotiate terms with Rudiger and Tuchel has now issued an update on the situation.
It comes like the blues beat west ham thanks to a late goal from Christian Pulisic. The USA international spared his team-mate Jorginho’s blush after missing a penalty in the 87th minute – with Graeme Souness interfering in his “pathetic” effort.

West Ham talking points
Christian Pulisic’s last-minute goal gave Chelsea a 1-0 lead First League Victory over 10 man West Ham and spared Jorginho’s penalty blush.
Second-half substitute Pulisic swept home Marcos Alonso’s low cross to give Blues teammate Jorginho a major reprieve. The Italy midfielder had missed a penalty four minutes from time when Craig also reduced West Ham to 10 men and Dawson was shown a red card. It was a game full of talking points, including Chelsea’s lack of an offensive threat, the second-half improvement and Tuchel’s revealing decision.
Jorginho struck
Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has blasted the Chelsea midfielder over his ‘pathetic’ penalty in the 1-0 win over West Ham.
Jorginho has made a name for himself with his technique and success from the penalty spot but registered a tame shot that was easily saved by West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski with just four of 90 minutes remaining in Sunday’s Premier League encounter. And Souness gave a scathing review of the effort after the game, describing Jorginho’s attempt as ‘just like not taking a penalty’.
Tuchel confirms Rüdiger plans
Antonio Rudiger has told Thomas Tuchel he wants to leave the club, the Chelsea manager has confirmed.
Rudiger’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season and the defender has been linked with some top clubs from across Europe. The Blues’ third provider to try and persuade Rudiger to stay included a £230,000-a-week wage but that wasn’t enough to convince the centre-back to sign a new contract before sanctions were imposed on the club.
That means the Blues can’t get the deal through the line at this time. After the West Ham win, Tuchel confirmed that Rudiger had informed him in a “private conversation” of his intention to leave Stamford Bridge.
