Kai Havertz opened the scoring for the Blues with an eighth-minute header from Ziyech’s corner to help Tuchel’s side equalize.

It was a bright start for the hosts, who were dominating in the early stages against French rivals who, despite winning the Ligue 1 title last season, are languishing in the middle of the table this campaign. .

No Lukaku in attack – dropped to the bench after registering just seven touches in 90 minutes against Crystal Palace – The Blues looked sharper and more assertive in the final third.

Lille had more foothold in the match immediately after but the Blues were always in the lead and they got their second goal an hour later when Christian Pulisic cushioned the ball from close range after N’Golo Kante’s pass and pass.

However, before the goal was scored, central midfielder Kovacic – who missed eight games due to illness and injury – was forced to limp through a muscle injury, being replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

There’s a similar story for Ziyech in form, who is again instrumental for Tuchel in this encounter.

The Moroccan was limping, seemingly clutching his ankle after falling to the ground without contact in another worrying development for the Blues.

Ziyech was brought on for Saul Niguez to watch the game for Tuchel’s team.

Tuchel said of the injury after the game: “I don’t know. I should have substituted Mateo Kovacic at half-time so there could have been another substitution.

“I haven’t talked to the doctor about Hakim yet and I hope it’s not serious.

“Today is Tuesday, there are many more days to recover until Sunday.

“We don’t want more injuries and influence from the bench on tactical matters. I hope they will be ready for Sunday.”

The German coach said of the win over Lille: “If there was an away goal it would have been better but we got another clean sheet and a deserved game.

“It’s hard not to let chances happen, they are a strong team, we have ups and downs with good times and weaker but we never pass up big opportunities.

“We worked together, worked hard and a tough game but a well-deserved win.”

Tuchel is aiming to win his fourth title with the club in just over a year after having won the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup.

However, the Blues were defeated by Leicester City of last season FA Cup Performance.
