Chelsea vs Salzburg LIVE: Champions League team news and line-ups tonight in Graham Potter’s first game

Jurgen Klopp dismisses Todd Boehly’s All-Star Game proposal

Chelsea return to the Champions League on Wednesday night and it will be a game with a string of firsts – including, the west London club hope, a first win of the group stage. That’s because of the surprise defeat at Dinamo Zagreb last time out which led to Thomas Tuchel’s sacking. Graham Potter is there instead and this will be both his first game in charge of the club and the first game of his career in the competition.

This will now be Potter’s only game with his team until October, with both last weekend and next weekend’s Chelsea games being postponed and an international break starting right after.

Salzburg managed to defeat AC Milan in Group E with a draw last week and the Blues meet the Italian champions in back-to-back European matchdays next month.

Chelsea are in talks with Red Bull Salzburg’s Christoph Freund to become the Blues’ new sporting director, the PA news agency hears.

New Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are pushing to take on the role of sporting director before the World Cup begins in Qatar in November.

And Salzburg’s director Freund is now considered one of the top candidates.

Chelsea are also said to have spoken to Portuguese manager Luis Campos, who works as a Paris St Germain agent.

It’s understood the Blues could still add two new faces to their technical setup off the field, which could open the door for both Freund and Campos at Stamford Bridge.

Graham Potter admits he never attended a Champions League game prior to the Chelsea arc

Graham Potter has revealed he had never attended a Champions League game before managing Chelsea for the first time.

The former Brighton boss will be on the sidelines in contention for the Blues when they take on RB Salzberg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

“I think wherever we start it’s a damn fine introduction,” Potter said after explaining that he’d never been to a Champions League football game, not even to scout a player. Chelsea vs Salzburg LIVE: Champions League team news and line-ups tonight in Graham Potter’s first game
