Removed by Paul Townend, Appreciated It’s already 24 lengths away from his rivals – and there seems to be little left in the tank.

He has a lot of work to do to beat Honeysuckle on the charts but it’s important that he races with her for a fresh, seasonal debut and fit for a big gig.

Guide to Hurdle Champion Runner Up and Latest Betfred Odds

Honeysuckle 8-13

Defending champion Henry de Bromhead bid to become the first mares to land this race twice. A huge talent, with 14 sprint wins and an undefeated record. Win on different types of ground, track and are very tactically flexible, very hard to fault, getting 7lb from other runners. However, it faces some interesting new rivals and understandably a very short price tag.

Appreciate it 4-1

Fascinating numbers from the Willie Mullins yard. Impressive with three consecutive Tier 1 wins last season, including track and field trip a year ago. Like Honeysuckle, he gave his best on different types of ground and had to improve to give her 7lb, as she is officially the better horse. The cage runners deserve the utmost respect, however, and if he can sit out the likely leader of Not So Sleepy, it’s certainly possible to secure the first run on Honeysuckle.

Teahupoo 9-1

Just 3lb behind Honeysuckle on the charts and set to get their first start outside of Ireland. Darasso galloped 11 lengths at Gowran last month, gliding through heavy ground. It was a big performance close to Cheltenham and it remains to be seen how much it has brought him. Upgrading and a few years younger than the top two in the betting industry.

Epatante 14-1

Win this in 2020 by three yards ahead of Sharjah, in Barry Geraghty’s Last Festival. Reliably third last year, she’s returned to winning form this season after a few practice runs. Her current running level suggests she’s not the old force, but coach Nicky Henderson seems very pleased with her preparation. Will love the ground and a great contender again.

Adagio 18-1

Runner-up at Greatwood at this location at its seasonal debut, carrying the highest weight, it’s a smart attempt. That race went well. David Pipe’s runner hasn’t been in perfect shape with just one run since. The connection will get plenty of encouragement from his second Wincanton with right-handed expert Goshen. That should get him excited for this – and he’s made a firm statement about reaching the podium.

Zanahiyr 20-1

No show when favorite Triumph Hurdle last year but more yourself at Punchestown. One horse improved in this campaign, finishing second behind Sharjah and Honeysuckle in his races. It’s about his level and cut his job at a track that loves to run very well.

Tommy’s Oscar 33-1

A horse of his dreams small team and exceeded expectations with eight wins from 14 starts. Impressive in his test race, beating a lot of underrated opponents he faces here. This is a different task altogether and he seems to like a flat track, which Cheltenham doesn’t.

Saint Roi 40-1

Attended five Tier 1 events in Ireland since scoring a hat-trick in 2020, including the County Hurdle at the Festival. Saw a horse on the road that day but didn’t go as expected, put some tough missions along the way. Made the mistake of jumping behind Honeysuckle and needed to raise his game.

Not too sleepy 100-1

Natural runner with many quirks. Thursday last year and hot with Epatante in Fighting Fifth last November. That opponent can come up with a lot of things that can’t be said with Not So Sleepy at the age of ten. The returning mob is not ideal for him or because of his enigmatic personality. Will run his usual honesty race without getting close to the principals.

Glory and fortune 100-1

Won the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury after finding Epatante too strong in Kempton. This is a big question and he is the most underrated runner in the field. Would do well to finish before any of them.
