Dating back to 1622, the hotel is believed to be home to a whopping 13 ghosts (and we’re not talking about those behind the bar), including tormented souls of Civil War soldiers, Roman soldiers, young children and even women who worked there when it was built in the 17th century th century was a brothel.

The foundations of the original building on which the hotel sits are even older, having been built in 1208 for Peter the Scribe.

Ye Olde Kings Head has gained such a reputation for his paranormal activities that he has appeared on the TV show Most Haunted and recently Sky Picks Paranormal.

It was also named Creepiest hotel in the Northwest last year.

It was bought 15 years ago by paranormal enthusiast Harry Achilleos and his dream was to turn it into a top dark tourism destination due to its creepy reputation.

Sightings over the years are said to range from eerie mists to full-body appearances, with poltergeist activity reported in the bar, including pints being knocked over.

It is one of several supposedly haunted buildings in Chesterwith a thriving ghost tour industry that has grown up around them.

Harry has now installed an array of 16 infrared cameras around the listed building to monitor any unusual activity.

And among the latest finds is a video of a rocking chair that appears to move by itself.

The chair, on which a creepy doll is sitting, is in room six of the hotel, one of several allegedly haunted rooms there.

Paranormal investigator Danny Moss, who joined Harry and teammate Brett Jones to work on the My Haunted Hotel project at Ye Olde Kings Head, said that he and the rest of the team were stunned by the footage of the rocking chair to see and had even tried unsuccessfully to debunk it.

Danny said: “Chester is without doubt one of the busiest cities in the UK and this 400 year old building is reputed to be one of the busiest in the country.

“It has become such a huge attraction locally. It’s the ninth week of the cameras being installed and the activity we caught on camera has been phenomenal.

“We found the footage of the rocking chair moving at 3:28 p.m. in the afternoon when there were no guests in the hotel. Harry received a notification on his phone saying something was moving in room six.

“He went back and told me and Brett and we even tried to debunk it but couldn’t find an explanation because the chair is quite heavy and wouldn’t move, for example, through a draft or people moving around it move around I’m quite a scientific person and will always look for a rational explanation.

“If I can’t find one, then I know it’s real.”
