Chris Packham supports Shoreham’s Save Trees campaign

A KNOWN TV presenter has supported Shoreham’s campaigners.

Chris Packham, naturalist, author and TV presenter, supports the Shoreham Poplar Front.

The group are currently trying to save a 30 year old tree next to the Duke of Wellington Pub.

It is to be cut down as part of plans for 159 apartments on the former site of the Civic Center next door.

Posting on his Twitter account – which has more than half a million followers – Mr Packham asked: “Why are [Adur & Worthing Councils] and [Hyde Homes] not think about changing the plan of the new building to keep this beautiful poplar?”

The Shoreham Poplar Front thanked Mr Packham for his support and said their campaign was “getting stronger by the day”.

They urge the council and developer to work with them to try to find a way to save the tree.

Hyde Homes has claimed the tree will need to be cut down to make way for affordable housing on the edge of the site and has promised to plant more trees.

Adur and Worthing Councils said the tree was “a matter for the developer”. Chris Packham supports Shoreham’s Save Trees campaign
