City Builder “As Far As The Eye” is a nomadic, roguelike version of “Civilization”

As Far As The Eye, Developer Unexpected’s thoughtful, nomadic take on the city-building genre arrives today on Switch. Published by Goblinz Publishing, the game’s warm color palette and soothing music might lull you into a false sense of security as you must build and maintain a mobile village while dodging the rising waters.

The game was released for mobile and PC back in 2020 via Steam and GOG, and this release marks the game’s debut on consoles. Take inspiration from the Civilization series and help guide students to the center of their world, the eye.

Founder and Manager of Goblinz Games, Johann Verbroucht, is proud to release the game and promote the game’s adaptability to “many people with different playstyles with different gameplay customization elements available”.

You can take a look at the calm, beautiful world below to get a sense of how city building works and how cute your andromorph students are:

Each of your students can level up their skills through the game’s job system and upgrade system, and depending on how many students you reach the Eye with, you’ll get a different ending. The different tribes you encounter and the different endings add a roguelike randomness to the game.

The publishers gave us these details in their press release for As Far As The Eye:

Embark on a mystical journey as the wind guides students to discover the eye, the center of their world. Empower the tribe’s mobile village and make turn-based decisions to improve their collective knowledge and skills through farming, crafting, scientific and mystical research. Avoid the rising waters and dire conditions that await along each uncharted path, and gather enough resources to feed the students before moving on.

Explore lush levels to harvest resources like wood, plants, and stone and deplete their materials before planning to build. Build sawmills and hunting lodges, considering the placement of buildings in relation to water to avoid flooding. Produce enough food to keep the students well fed and nourished to achieve the goals. Lead the tribe to a new stop with planned intentions of getting to the eye.

Travel through friendly neighboring villages and befriend other communities, inviting them to join your nomadic ways. Chat with new-found allies to open up trading opportunities for items, abilities, traditions, and outrageous legends. Travel alongside the beloved companion Taifu, a caravan that can carry supplies on its back.

Don’t be afraid of attacks when stumbling across holy sites. Show due respect or face the consequences of betrayal and plundering of their resources. Determine which option is more imaginative while collecting as many students as possible. Ensure the survival of the tribe on their difficult nomadic journey to earn rewards and uncover untold stories in a procedurally generated journey.

Customize the gameplay during the risky expedition full of tough decisions and risky consequences with tons of modifiers including game duration, stop size, resource generation and quantity and more.
