Classic car owners are encouraged to register for the Retro Cannonball fundraiser benefiting the Hope Foundation

Classic car owners are encouraged to register for this year’s Retro Cannonball fundraiser benefiting the Hope Foundation.
The annual event has raised €1,325,000 for Irish charities since its inception, and its organizers are “hoping” to reach the €250,000 target set for this year.
The Hope Foundation works with street children in Calcutta (formerly Calcutta), India and runs over 60 projects including 11 children’s shelters, a hospital, an outpatient clinic, counseling, food and nutrition, education, health care and children’s childhood recovery.
The 2022 Retro Cannonball starts on June 10th at 9:30am in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast and covers the whole of the east coast of Ireland from Antrim to Wexford.
Sponsored by Galway Bay Brewery, the vintage convoy will travel some of the glorious north coast roads, visiting Newcastle, Naas, Johnny Fox’s Pub Dublin, Glendalough, the Wicklow Mountains and Blessington Lakes.
It ends on Saturday 11 June at 18.30 in Wexford Town.
Cars registered for this year’s road trip include a Lamborghini Diablo, a Jaguar E-Type, a beautiful Ferrari 328 GTS, some beautiful Mercedes-Benz SL classics, a Lancia Beta, a BMW 635CSI, a Porsche 911 Carrera and a Porsche 911 Targa, MG Midget, Ford Escort Cosworth, Chevrolet Corvette, Classic VW Beetle, Ford Thunderbird, Mini Cooper and many more.
Spectators can get a close-up look at the cars and take photos at the finish lines in Naas on Friday 10 June at 18:30 and Saturday 11 June in Wexford Town.
Cannonball Founder Alan Bannon said: “We welcome cars from the golden era of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s to experience breathtaking drives and many iconic Irish attractions.
“Oldtimers not only appeal to car lovers, but also to lovers of technology, design, art and history. They retain an incurable romance and that is why people love and always will love classic cars.”
Additionally, registration for Cannonball Ireland, the supercar event taking place from 8th to 10th September, is now open.
More details on both events are available on-line.
