Cloudflare DOWN: Outage Affects Millions as Just Eat, NordVPN, and Others Suffer Internet Trouble

SOME of the internet’s most popular services were down in a major outage on Tuesday.

VPN provider NordVPN and takeout delivery favorite Just Eat were reportedly among the big names hit.

Fitbit, Peleton, and Bet365 also appeared to have been hit, leaving a mysterious “500 Internal Server Error” for many.

Cloudflare – the backbone of many websites – admitted it was at the root of the problem after suffering a “critical” incident.

It took technicians around an hour to implement a fix after the alarm went off around 8am UK time.

Just after 9 a.m., Cloudflare said the incident was resolved.

Is NordVPN down?

Users flocked to Twitter to find out what’s happening.

NordVPN, which has millions of customers, responded to people saying, “It appears there are issues with Cloudflare services affecting a wide range of services, including ours.

“However, the team is already investigating the issue and working to resolve it.

“We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.”

But NordVPN was not alone – many websites rely on Cloudflare.

Corresponding TechCrunchDiscord, Omegle, DoorDash, Crunchyroll, Feedly, Zerodha, Medium.com, Register, Groww, Buffer, iSpirt, Upstox, and Social Blade were also affected.

The edge says Shopify, Grindr, Fitbit, Peleton, Just Eat, and Bet365 also had issues.

What caused the Cloudflare outage?

According to Cloudfare’s own status page, it was a “critical P0 incident”.

“The connectivity in the Cloudflare network is disrupted in large regions,” the company said at the time.

“Eyeballs trying to reach Cloudflare sites in affected regions will see 500 errors.

“The incident affects all data-plane services on our network.”

Cloudflare is a massive network service used by many websites.

It provides security and performance boosting tools for web apps.

One of the greatest things it offers is called reverse proxy, which protects large websites from being attacked.
