Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally stabbed in Gilford, Co. Down.

Police said the 36-year-old victim suffered stab wounds in the early hours of the morning in the Hill Street area and subsequently died of his injuries.

Three people have been arrested and are currently assisting the police in their investigation.

DUP Chief Ban MP Carla Lockhart said the Gilford community was “in shock”.

She added: “First and foremost our prayers this morning are with the family of the deceased. The death of a loved one is never easy, but it is even harder to grasp in such circumstances.

“It is important that everyone gives the PSNI time and space to conduct their investigations. We would also like to thank the rescue services who took care of the scene of the accident. If anyone has any further information please get in touch and report this to the police.”
