Co-op broken into by three men in Heathfield

A CO-OP store was broken into by three men last night and remained closed all day.

At around 11.15pm on Sunday evening an alarm went off at the Co-op in Heathfield High Street, Heathfield, near Uckfield.

The police saw three men running out of the store who had opened the tills.

Officers stayed in the store until at least 1am and the store will not reopen until tomorrow due to damage to the building.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to an alarm activation at the Co-op supermarket in High Street, Heathfield, at around 11.15pm on Sunday 7 August.

“Upon arrival three men were seen running from the scene, entry was forced and the tills were searched.

“Officers remained at the scene while initial investigations took place, including collecting CCTV footage.
