Cobra Kai Season 5 recalls a great movie you may not have seen

Before Hollywood really committed to showing more diverse stories on the big screen with projects like “Crazy Rich Asians” or “Easter Sunday,” Asian-American and Asian-American filmmakers thrived on YouTube. Without major studio backing, these crafty creators have adopted a DIY perspective, telling their own stories and releasing them online. In addition, with the help of film festivals nationwide such as CAMFest and New York Asian Film Festival, there’s a chance that their passion projects can actually be brought to the big screen. So back in 2014, that’s exactly what Patrick Epino and Stephen Dypiangco did.

Collectively known as National Film Association, the duo decided to try their hand at making a series. But they didn’t just want to celebrate the Asian-American experience that was barely featured in the mainstream media at the time. Epino and Dypiangco also wanted to pay homage to the ’80s and ’90s action movie villains who were always Asian. Performers such as Okumoto, Al Leong from “Die Hard”, “Lethal Weapon” and “Big Trouble in Little China”, or George Cheung from “Rambo 2”, “Robocop 2”, “Lethal Weapon 4″ and ” Rush Hour “doesn’t always get their flowers because it’s so awesome.

But with “Awesome Asian Bad Guys,” which assembles a team of these evil actors to take down a nefarious boss, the NFS will end up gifting them the aforementioned flowers and more. And in addition to the directors themselves and their teams, their films also feature other prominent stars such as Randall Park, Tamlyn Tomita and Dante Basco, who have continued to sharpen and pave the way. The next generation of Asian American Hollywood evolves.
