Cold Comfort: Soaring energy bills may force us back into the cold endurance era

According to a UK poll by Savanta ComRes, a research firm specializing in public policy, one in four people will not turn on the heating this winter. Of those surveyed, 23 percent said they didn’t turn on the heating at all; for parents of children under the age of 18, this rose to 27 percent.

With the skyrocketing rise in energy costs, that seems almost predictable – and it’s likely that a similar situation will materialize in Ireland, where energy prices are set to rise by 80 per cent from October. And is expected to rise again in 2023.
