Coleen Rooney loses lawsuit to take Rebekah Vardy’s agent to court

Coleen Rooney hired a former Scotland Yard cybercrime detective for her court battle with Rebekah Vardy, the Mirror can reveal.

Investigator Matt Blackband was part of Coleen’s plan to ‘not be exposed’ after a judge ordered further disclosures WhatsApp messages between Vardy and agent Caroline Watt.

Mr Blackband’s involvement came to light when he was called Coleen’s “digital information specialist” in a Supreme Court ruling on Monday.

He helped establish the multi-agency National High-Tech Crime Unit and has been an investigator for 30 years, including 21 with the Met Police.

A source told the Mirror: “Coleen believes the damn WhatsApp messages revealed in court last week between Rebekah and her agent Caroline Watt are the tip of an iceberg.

“Understandably, given this position, she won’t be exposed. She is confident she will win the court case when more evidence is available.”

An insider said: “Matt is one of the best executives in the business. He is a great weapon to have.”

Coleen, 35, wife of former England captain Wayne, in 2019 accused Rebekah’s social media account of being involved in the leak of a newspaper about her private life.

Rebekah, 39, wife of Leicester City striker Jamie, denies the allegations and is suing her for defamation.

Coleen’s attorneys claimed Rebekah leaked information directly or through Ms Watt’s agent “acting at her direction or with her consent”.

Coleen has requested an additional lawsuit against Ms Watt for misuse of personal information and wants it to be heard alongside the libel lawsuit, which will be handled in May.

The Supreme Court ruled this on Monday but allowed further disclosures about the WhatsApps.

Last night, a source accused Coleen’s camp of being “fantastic” if they hoped new evidence would emerge from subsequent messages being revealed.

A source said: “They are very much clutching straws.”
