Chelsea Face Mission: Impossible at the Bernabeu as real Madrid speak to Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haland and the rest of the NextGen Galacticos.
This is the verdict of mirror sports columnist Stan Collymorewho can’t see Thomas Tuchel’s boys in blue tipping over They suffered a 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge last week. Karim Benzema scored a stunning hat-trick in the first leg as Los Blancos put one foot in the semi-finals.
Kai Havertz, who scored the winning goal last season Champions League final, reduced the deficit to 2-1 before the Frenchman’s third of the night sealed the visitors’ victory and gave Chelsea a mountain to climb. Collymore said: “I see Manchester City and Liverpool through to the semifinals but Chelsea I’m afraid is going out.
“I just don’t see them closing their 3-1 deficit at the Bernabeu – Real are the champions in this tournament. The Spaniards have also had a difficult time financially recently Barcelonabut I just don’t see them finishing at home in a competition they very much regard as their own.
“In addition, if they win the Champions League this season, they have a chance to sell the club to Mbappe, Haaland and the next potential generation of Galacticos. Real sometimes creaks at the seams with the old guard – Benzema, Bale was booed when he came on as a substitute against Getafe.
“They have great players like Barcelona but they are players that Real or Barca wouldn’t normally have at this stage of their career. They would go for the younger versions and this is a great opportunity for Real to reset and say: ‘Despite the financial constraints, we turned things around and got things back on track financially.
“We are them now real Madrid again that you can come and live all your dreams. I’m sure Real Madrid will think of Haaland and Mbappe when it comes to getting back to where they need to be.”

Benzema was in shaky form and deservedly garnered praise from all quarters after backing his Hat-trick in the round of 16 against Paris Saint-Germain with another against Chelsea. As a former Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and England striker, Collymore knows a thing or two about acting through the middle.
And he recently described Benzema, whom he greatly admires, as “a striker’s striker,” adding: “Benzema is a fine wine, a footballer’s Chateau Lafite Rothschild. His consecutive hat-tricks in the Champions League have been remarkable and I’m happy for him that he’s playing so well and especially with a smile on his face. To see him being loved, laughing and joking with his Real Madrid team-mates is great and long may it continue.”
