Comedian Jason Byrne has been hospitalized in Scotland after what he called “a chuckle in my chest”.
He Dubliner was due to perform at the Glee Club in Glasgow and at the Grandstand in Newcastle this week but according to a post on his official Facebook page, he has experienced “entanglement in the chest ( that) he has to go get checked”.
He added that gigs will be rescheduled.
“We are pushing back the date until we know more. A big thank you to Leslie, Dr. Keith and everyone at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow,” he said.
Earlier this year, Byrne admitted he was shocked to learn he needed a stent due to a previously undiagnosed heart condition – despite leading a very healthy lifestyle.
above Late Program with host Ryan Tubridy this past January, he revealed he has a serious heart condition.
“I have always been really healthy,” he said. Eat very well, do all kinds of things, no problem at all. So I went jogging. I’m not feeling well (last October).
“So I went jogging in Portmarnock and I felt pain right on the [left] side of my chest. And if someone is eavesdropping, if you have pain in that area, go to your doctor right away. Even if it’s (just) wind, it doesn’t matter. Doctors don’t care. If it hurts, go get it checked out.”

The 50-year-old explains: “So I went to my doctor, my cardiologist, and he was Rory Hanlon of Blackrock – he was brilliant. They did a cholesterol test. They do all the ultrasounds for you. But the only way for them to detect it is by magnetic resonance imaging or angiography, where they inject dye into you.
“So they injected it into me and they found out I had three clogged arteries. Then I started getting really upset, because I’m so healthy, I don’t smoke, I barely don’t. My drinking and diet are very good.
“And they say, ‘Yes, it’s genetic. You got it from your parents. You can also get it from your grandparents. So it doesn’t matter how healthy you feel. It’s still there. can infect you’.
“The doctor said, ‘look, it’s not your fault. It’s all right. You didn’t do anything wrong, it’s just cholesterol.’ I make more cholesterol than everyone else. So I must take a pill forever.”
