armichael, who won an Emmy this year for HBO’s intimate special Rothaniel, will host a ceremony that has been criticized for belittling black-led projects and performances.
Thursday’s announcement came about a month before the January 12 ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California.
NBC declined to air the 2022 ceremony to allow the Golden Globes and its parent organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), to make changes following a disastrous 2021 Los Angeles investigation The Times has revealed its inner workings, including that it has had no black members since at least 2002.

HFPA President Helen Hoehne said: “Jerrod is the special kind of talent this show calls to kick off the awards season.
Carmichael won an Emmy in September for writing Rothaniel, an independent special in which he revealed he was gay.
The Globe doesn’t normally have a host, but starting in 2010, it tapped the comedic talents of Ricky Gervais, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and others to host the show and bake attendees, including often HFPA.
Louis Gossett Jr. was one of three hosts in 1993, and Access Hollywood host Shaun Robinson shared hosting duties in 2007.
