Commonwealth Games events today where Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Emily Campbell are aiming for gold

Emily Campbell is the star of day six of the Commonwealth Games as she fights for gold to complement her Olympic silver medal in women’s weightlifting.

Campbell rose to fame when she won a silver medal in women’s weightlifting over 87 kg at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 28-year-old from Nottingham, who won bronze at the Gold Coast four years ago and is also the reigning European champion, is considered the favorite for a gold medal on her home stage and continues England’s winning streak in the competition.

Evie Richards would love to put a year of injury and illness behind her by upgrading the mountain bike silver she won in 2018 to a gold medal, but said after months of back problems and a recent bout of Covid, she’s being realistic got to.

That could potentially open the door for Scotland’s Isla Short, while New Zealand’s defending champion Sam Gaze is the men’s favourite.

While Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s Heptathlon Challenge continues and completes on the track.

Defending heptathlon champion Johnson-Thompson wants to retain her title if she goes into day two with a 109-point lead, but she is likely to be pushed by England team-mate Holly Mills, among others.

Also on the track, Daryll Neita set a mark in the women’s 100m with 11.02 seconds on her run, and her anticipated final 100m showdown with Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica is one of the most intriguing duels of the Games.
