Connacht swoops in on the wing of Irish qualified Australian Byron Ralston


Connacht Rugby have kept up their recruitment plans ahead of next season by announcing the signing of Irish defender Byron Ralston from Western Force.

alston, a former Australia Under-20 international, made 14 Super Rugby appearances for the Force, scoring five tries and joining the growing Antipodean influence in the west under coaching Australian member Andy Friend.

“Moving to Connacht Rugby and Western Ireland is a great opportunity for me,” he said this morning.

“The style of rugby they play will suit me and it gives me a chance to reconnect with my Irish roots.

“I am clearly aware of the positive experiences other Australians have had after moving to Connacht, and as such I will do all I can to make the same impact and help the club achieve this. get the level of success they’re all aiming for.”

Before Force’s move to Super Rugby, he was also in brilliant form for the club in the National Rugby Championship, scoring seven times in eight games as he helped them win the Finals. 2019.

Ralston played most of his rugby on the flanks and out of center. He was born in Darwin and later moved to Brisbane, where he played High School and Club rugby, before rising through the ranks at the Force.

“I’m glad Byron chose to continue to develop his career with us,” said Friend.

“He’s playing as a winger for Force, but also plays in 13, so he’s another player we have who has great flexibility.

“As he is only 21 years old, he will have a great opportunity to grow his game here and be a key part of our setup.”

Connacht has drafted two other wings from the Southern Hemisphere, with one of them, Irish-qualified Mack Hansen, making an incredible international breakthrough at this year’s Six Nations, while John Porch last week announced Dad will extend his stay at the club.
