Conor McGregor’s decision to return to the UFC after breaking his leg has been described as “confusing” by one of his managers.

And Tim Simpson has claimed the Irish star could delay his return until the end of the year despite being expected to return this summer.

McGregor is currently on family vacation in the Bahamas as he continues to recover from the injury he sustained in the match against Dustin Poirier.

Both Dubliner and UFC president Dana White say a summer return is on the cards as McGregor keeps an eye on a resumption and full training in April.

But his manager considers McGregor’s desire for a rematch “difficult” after hitting his financial and MMA goals.

“Actually it was on Conor [when to return]but I look forward to this year,” Simpson told Time MMA. “He is currently in the Bahamas with his family and is focusing on other business ventures.

“He doesn’t need to come back, he’s practically who he is and what he’s achieved financially and athletically. After that injury, it was like “now might be the time” but he wants to fight again, which I am baffled and say a lot about him.

“I don’t think it’s going to be in the summer but it’s definitely going to be some stage this year. Maybe we’ll see when the fight for the lightweight championship hits and then go.

“He’s going to fight this year and it’s a merit for him, he has no real reason to fight other than the fact he wants to and that’s impressive.”

McGregor suffered a damaging second consecutive defeat to Poirier last summer, leaving him on the brink of dropping out of the lightweight top 10.

McGregor’s comeback fight is unlikely to be the fourth against Poirier after the fight was ruled out by ‘The Diamond’.

McGregor had previously requested a title fight against Oliveira after the Brazilian admitted he was “waiting” for his challenge.

However, that was quickly debunked after Dana White confirmed war will take place against Gaethje.

Now Simpson has stated that McGregor’s return could come at the perfect time to challenge the winner to the defense of Oliveira which will take place in May.

“Let’s see what happens in the title fight,” Simpson continued. “The thing with Conor is that he always has options.

“He’s going to have options when he’s ready and regardless of everything else going on in the division, he sells. He can fight anyone, no matter what’s said’. true’ for the division.

“Ultimately the business rules and he can go into that title fight if he wants to.”
