Contract cleaners will receive a pay increase of more than €2 per hour for the next two years under the employment regulation order.
His order will take effect from April this year, with the first increase of € 0.35 per hour, bringing to a new minimum hourly rate of € 11.55.
The further increase to €11.90 per hour will come into effect in April 2023, and the increase to €12.30 will come into effect in 2024.
Business and Employment Minister Damien English approved the order today, replacing the previous agreement from December 2020.
“I am delighted to pass this employment regulation order, which I will sign to take effect April 1, 2022.
“This process fits very well in the context of Ireland’s voluntary industrial relations system.”
Today’s orders affect contracted cleaners or cleaners who work in hospitals, offices, shops, factories, apartment buildings, hotels, airports and similar facilities .
Employment orders that fix statutory minimum wages and other conditions in various sectors, following negotiations between workers and employers in the Joint Labor Commission, under the auspices of the Workplace Relations Committee.
The orders do not affect existing arrangements at the local or national level, or within companies.
There are Joint Labor Committees for workers in agriculture, catering, early learning and English teaching, hairdressing, hospitality, retail and the security industry.
Last year’s order to raise the minimum wage in the security sector was quashed after three employers filed a legal challenge against it.
Mr. English said the Joint Labor Commission system was an “effective” way to negotiate wage increases in individual sectors.
Mr. English said: “For many workers, the advantage of Joint Labor Commissions is that they see fair terms and conditions such as wages, sickness pay, etc.
“For some employers, the advantage of the system, which is based on the principle of self-governance, means that they can agree and set minimum wages and conditions, agree on working methods work done specifically for their industry”.
