IRELAND is set for a dry but cool and cloudy weekend, with temperatures dropping below zero in some areas overnight.

Meet Eireann had predicted a mostly steady week ahead with mild temperatures and some rain to move in midweek.

Today is usually cloudy and mostly dry, with only a few drizzle, mainly over Connacht and Ulster.

A few bouts of sunshine or morning will occur in the afternoon. The highest temperature is from 7°C to 10°C.

Tonight will continue to be cloudy and dry, with occasional light drizzle in the west.

Lowest temperatures are generally 1C to 5C, which can drop to -1C during any prolonged clear cloud accompanied by frost.
