Cork: Emergency services respond to incident
A woman who crashed in a car with two children into the River Lee in Cork last night has died.
The two children, who managed to escape from the car and were rescued from the water, were taken to Cork University Hospital and remain hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The search continued for the woman, in her 40s, believed to be trapped in the vehicle.
The incident happened around 8:45 p.m. Friday at Kennedy Quay.
The woman’s body was later retrieved from the water by the Irish Naval Services dive team and taken to Cork University Hospital.
The results of the autopsy will determine the further course of the Garda investigation into the incident.
A spokeswoman for Garda said: “We are investigating all the circumstances surrounding an incident where a vehicle was driven into a vehicle on Friday 3 April.
“Two children were recovered from the water and are currently being treated at Cork University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.”
