Coronation Street aired the emotional scenes on Friday night, as Laura Neelan tragically passed away following a battle with cancer.
The character told her young daughter Kelly Neelan that she was terminally ill earlier this year, but recent scenes see the mother and daughter being separated.
Kelly abandoned her mother after Laura confessed to the murder of her father, Rick Neelan in recent scenes.
Fans knew that Gary was the real killer, but knowing she was dying and wanting the best for Kelly, she took the blame in a heartbreaking sacrifice.
She tells Gary to keep her secret and in return, raise Kelly for her – but that means Kelly hasn’t seen her sick mother since and refuses to say goodbye to her.
Gary spied on Kelly in the latest episode and begged her to meet Laura before it was too late.
He told her: “You really need to see her, she begged me. She will die any moment, she is still your mother.
“I need to go see her. If I don’t say goodbye now, I won’t be able to come back later. I’ll regret this for the rest of my life.”
Laura had cried for her daughter moments earlier at the hospital, knowing she was nearing her end and desperate to see her.
Kelly refused to sit still and got drunk instead, before telling Gary, “You go see my mom, tell her to say hello to my dad.”
She stormed off and ended up talking to her best friend Simon Barlow, before deciding to see her mother one last time.
But when Gary drove her to the hospital, she found Maria sobbing and realized she was too late to say goodbye.
Laura tragically died while Maria was with her, and before Kelly could get there–distracting the teenager, and Gary too.
When Kelly entered the hospital room, she pulled back the curtains and saw her mother lying on the bed.
Kelly cried for her mother as she broke down in tears, before she climbed into bed and hugged her.
As the final scenes played out, Gary and Maria looked through the window in tears as Kelly stayed with her mother and sobbed.
