Coronation Street airs special documentary about William Roache’s 90th birthday

ITV will air a documentary special to celebrate the 90th birthday of Coronation street legend, William Roache.

The actor, who is the longest-serving TV star in the world after playing Ken Barlow for six decades, will celebrate his 90th birthday on April 25.

Corrie’s documentary special titled Happy Birthday Bill will look back at his life and accomplishments over the years.

It will also include interviews from those closest and dearest to him, as well as his soap co-stars, as they reminisce about the biggest moments in his life.

Speaking of the documentary, Bill said: “I don’t feel close to 90 at all. The cast of Coronation Street is like a second family to me and I can’t believe I’ve been lucky enough to play the part. as Ken Barlow over 60 years old.

“It’s also lovely to look back on past memories and remember all the wonderful things I’ve seen and done over the years.

Bill is the longest serving TV star in the world

“I hope audiences enjoy watching the documentary as much as I did.”

Throughout the documentary, viewers will get a glimpse of Bill’s life while at home with his family, as well as his experiences behind the scenes on the show he’s called home since it began. beginning in December 1960.

The show will also provide an insight into Bill’s life before Coronation Street as he returns to his former army barracks where he served before turning to acting.

During his time on the cobblestones, Bill’s character Ken rose to fame as a lady’s man, married four times to three women.






Bill played Ken Barlow for six decades

Ken was involved in several dramatic storylines with his third on-screen wife Deirdre Barlow, played by Anne Kirkbride, who appeared on the show from 1972 to 2014. Kirkbride died in January 2015.

One of the most memorable moments hit the British press in 1983 after it was revealed that Deirdre was having an affair with Mike Baldwin, played by Johnny Briggs.

The plot captured the interest of both the media and viewers, with Ken’s 20 million followers discovering the affair.

Bill was awarded an MBE in the 2001 New Year Honors and an OBE in the 2022 New Year Honors for services to drama and charity.
