Coronation line: Audrey emotional about growing old

Coronation Street fans were left behind after discovering the age gap between actresses Sue Nichols and Helen Worth – or lack thereof.

The couple first joined the ITV soap in the ’70s as mother and daughter Audrey Roberts and Gail Platt.

Gail and Audrey haven’t had the easiest family relationship over the years, but it’s become even more strained in recent weeks as Audrey has had to drink.

But viewers were distracted after realizing that Sue was 78 years old and Helen was 71 years old – meaning there was only a 7-year age gap between them.

One viewer tweeted: “Just checked, in real life Audrey is 78 and Gail is 71!”

While another commented: “Both of them look great!”

A third wrote: “Both of them look great for their age!”

It happened after Su talked about Audrey’s feelings about her family’s treatment of her.

“She felt a lot like they were treating her like a child and like someone incapable of making her own decisions,” Sue said. “She realized why she was so upset about it when she talked to Rita, who is also very independent, and she made it clear to her that they shouldn’t treat her that way.

“All that happened to her wasn’t desperate at first and could happen to anyone. She backed into Rita’s car and they told her she shouldn’t be driving.

“She had to have cataract surgery, which again isn’t such a big deal these days and they started saying she had to slow down, they did it for the right reasons, but she finds it annoying and especially when they keep telling her she can’t have a glass of wine, put everything down, so sometimes she does it just to annoy them and her He’s resentful.”

The actress added: “This storyline isn’t about Audrey having a drink problem but she ended up causing herself a bigger problem when she got drunk in the salon, fired everyone and trapped under the motorcycle. Thereby proving them right in their eyes, when really she is forced to behave that way by her frustration with them.”
