Coronation Street fans have something special to look forward to tonight as ITV airs a special hour-long episode.
The explosive 60-minute episode starts at 8 p.m. and promises much more drama as Lydia Chambers (Rebecca Ryan) continues her search for Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) as he tries to convince the police that she’s trying to get him something to attach
Elsewhere, Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) falls off her car and turns to drugs to quell her pain while her husband Kevin Webster makes a surprise return home.
Also, Roy Cropper finds young Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) as his new chess opponent, while Kelly Neelan confides in Simon that he’s taking care of Laura.
There is a new schedule for all three soaps from next week as Emmerdale is set to start clashing with EastEnders as a result of the changes.
Instead of the usual 7pm slot, ITV’s Emmerdale will now run at 7:30pm – exactly the same time as the Walford-based soap on BBC One.
In addition to tonight’s episode, Corrie fans will also get another hour-long episode on Monday night from 8 p.m.
And going forward, Coronation Street will be moved to 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for an uninterrupted hour-long episode.
Opening the schedule change, John Whiston, ITV’s Managing Director of Continuing Drama, said: “With Coronation Street bursting at the seams with fantastic story and character, the new format gives the show a brilliant new canvas on which to shine.
“And Emmerdale will do what it does best in this new window of time, where viewers can continue to enjoy the drama of the Dales.”
Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, added: “The two most popular ongoing dramas in the country, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, are fundamental to the success of ITV and we know that, as with all drama, viewers love them , increasingly see when and how to choose.
“The new scheduling means viewers can watch them live on TV in one continuous soap fix all at once, as well as on the ITV Hub, where they can be seen regularly on the most watched shows each month.”
Coronation Street airs tonight at 8pm on ITV and the ITV Hub.
