Coronation Street’s Rick, played by Greg Wood, first appeared in 2009’s Weatherfield to confront Joe McIntyre, who was saddled with debt after his business took a hit.
Gary Windass is set to confess to the murder of Rick Neelan after the loan shark’s body is discovered next week on Coronation Street.
Rick, played by Greg Wood, first appeared in Weatherfield in 2009 to confront Joe McIntyre, who was saddled with debt after his business took a hit.
Joe – Gail’s fourth husband and Tina’s father – owes Rick £5,000 and is paid off by a loan shark.
Following further threats, Joe paid Rick another £4,000 before attempting to settle his own death from a life insurance scam. Tragically, Joe accidentally took his life.
The police questioned Rick at the time about Joe’s death, but they were satisfied that he had nothing to do with it.
Rick returned again in 2012, but this time to torment Tommy Duckworth about his father Terry’s £20,000 debt and try to make Tommy a drug mule for him.
The loan shark then kidnapped Rita, threatening to throw her into the canal, before being caught by the police and sent to jail.
In 2019, he returned to Weatherfield for the last time after being released from prison to claim the money he owed Gary.
After being beaten and threatened several times by a loan shark, Gary is lured to the woods after Rick tells him he had Sarah, his girlfriend at the time.
Gary discovered a grave that Rick dug during his plan to bury him after killing him.
After a violent fight between them, Gary tries to get above and then comes the news that he killed Rick.
The loan shark has ‘disappeared’ and Gary takes over the loan shark business, with Rick’s daughter Kelly and wife Laura believing he is on the run from the police.
But next week on ITV, Kelly was horrified when she discovered on her phone that police were at the new County training ground looking for a body.
Gary and Maria struggle to hide their panic.
When a body is discovered at the construction site, Kelly is desperately hoping that her father is still alive – but DS Beckett dashes her hopes when they confirm that they have found Rick’s body.
Kelly had a mental breakdown and later confided in Maria how she felt both her parents let her down.
Gary, contrary to his guilt, tells Maria that he wants to confess to Rick’s murder.
Maria is terrified and tries her best to beg Gary to reconsider when she tells him he will end up destroying their family and Kelly’s life….
