Coronation Street has confirmed Spider Nugent will return to the cobblestones 25 years after he left the ITV soap.

Martin Hancock will return to the soap screen to reprize the role he played as Emily’s eco-warrior grandson from 1997 to 2003.

Toyah Battersby’s ex-boyfriend is set to start filming scenes next week and will air on ITV in July.

The fan-favorite character originally went to London to start over with Toyah when he left the group in 2003, but the pair later split and he moved to Peru, while Toyah returned to Weatherfield in 2016.

Life goes on, does Spider hold on to his youthful ideals and will he return in a last-ditch attempt to rekindle his love for Toyah or is something else bringing him back to the streets?

Returning to the show, Martin said: “Having the opportunity to walk back to the pebbles was so amazing, I’m so excited to see so many old friends again and learn what Spider has been up to.

“I always wanted to come back at some point and it seemed like the right time. I am eternally grateful to Iain for the opportunity.”

Regarding the decision to bring Spider back to Coronation Street, producer Iain Macleod explained: “Martin is a great actor and Spider is a character with a real legacy and is loved by his fans.

“His return heralds a fascinating new story for Toyah, who will be swept up in a tangle of guilt and secrecy when Spider arrives. Will he be her savior or the one that will ruin her life forever? ”

This comes after Coronation Street is reported to have offered former Emmerdale star Zoe Lambert a new role on ITV.

The former Emmerdale actress played lawyer Rachel Whatmore on ITV from 2003 to 2005, but is now set to switch from Dales to the lovable man.

Zoe will appear in several episodes of Corrie later this year and will begin filming scenes for the series this week.

While details about Zoe’s character are being kept under wraps, she’ll hit the screens in early June, according to insiders, for a brief episode.

Zoe’s character on Emmerdale is loved by fans of the soap, as she plays Rachel, a lawyer who works for the Tate family.
