Coronation Road: Joseph sets off for Portugal with Linda
Coronation Street’s Joseph Brown bid farewell to his father Chesney before starting a new life with his grandmother in Portugal on Monday, only to have Chesney speed to the airport.
Their bitter farewell comes after Joseph (William Flanagan) tells his father (Sam Aston) and Gemma Winters (Dolly-Rose Campbell) that he wants to move in with his grandmother Linda Hancock (Jacqueline Leonard) Portugal.
The mother of the late Katy Armstrong arrived on the cobblestones unaware of her nephew’s recent disappearance, but it wasn’t long before residents filled her up in the recent drama.
Despite Chesney’s efforts to convince Linda that everything is fine with the family, she hesitantly suggests that her grandson move to Portugal to live with her permanently.
Although Chesney dismissed the idea, when Joseph later overheard his father and Gemma’s conversation about him, he misunderstood and announced he wanted to move out.

During the hour-long ITV show on Monday, Chesney was forced to part ways with Joseph after accepting that he could have had a better life in a warmer climate.
But when an emotional group of Chesney, Gemma, Bernie, Fiz, Hope and Ruby gathered on cobblestones to wave Joseph and Linda out of their taxi, eagle-eared fans spotted a big mistake in travel.
Chesney hugged his son Joseph in tears, before Bernie assured Joseph his uncle Paul would contact him at 7pm “your time” – but some viewers took to Twitter to note that There is no time difference between United Kingdom and Portugal.
One person wrote: “‘7 hours of your time.” Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK “while someone else writes:” “Your time”? Portugal is in the same time zone as the UK. “
A third person tweeted: “Is Portugal in the same time zone as the UK”
ITV viewers were left disappointed at the prospect of the boy leaving Weatherfield unwell, with one piece writing: “Poor Joseph… I’m sure he just wanted his dad’s attention a little bit. Hope Chesney realized his mistake and had to build the airport before Joseph flew away.”
Another wrote: “Poor Joseph. He clearly doesn’t want to go and Chesney shouldn’t let him. He just said he wanted to go because he felt left out.”

Early on Monday’s show, Chesney told Gemma he should accept that Joseph’s grandmother could offer him a better life in Portugal, despite his previous reluctance.
He then bites the bullet and tells Joseph that he’s prepared to let him move in with Linda, if that’s what he really wants – but he doesn’t know, Joseph has guts in front of the topic suggested that his father didn’t want him around.
But the date of the move was later rushed after Linda was called back to Portugal when her housekeeper kicked her husband out, forcing her to board a flight that night.
Still traumatized by an earlier conversation with his father, Joseph later says he’s coming with her – leaving Chesney and Gemma reeling.
As his son prepares to leave for the airport, Chesney is adamant that he is only in Joseph’s best interest.
Fiz then calls 5 and urges Hope to tell Chesney what Joseph had said and she reveals that Joseph doesn’t want to go to Portugal, but feels they can’t afford to keep him.
Chesney panicked when he realized he had misunderstood his son’s intentions and set out with Gemma to the airport to pursue Joseph.
