Coronation Street fans reported a police mistake on Monday night, as heartbreak hit when a body was discovered.
Kelly Neelan was left devastated when her father’s corpse was finally found after three years.
Borrowing Shark Rick, played by Greg Wood, terrorized the residents of Weatherfield during his brief stay on cobblestones in 2019.
Among those tormented by Rick was Gary, whom he tried to kill by luring him into the woods and claiming he had Sarah, his girlfriend at the time.
Gary discovered a grave that Rick dug during his plan to bury him after killing him.
After a fierce fight, Gary tried to get above and then came the news that he had killed Rick.
The loan shark has ‘disappeared’ and Gary takes over the loan shark business, with Rick’s daughter Kelly and wife Laura believing he is on the run from the police.
But Laura has since stated that she will be responsible for the murder of her husband Rick so that his real killer Gary can continue to care for Kelly.
But on Monday’s ITV broadcast, Kelly was horrified when a body was discovered at a construction site, only for DS Beckett to dash Kelly’s last hope it could be someone else, as he confirmed that they found Rick’s body.
The officer told Kelly about her mother Laura: “Her mother admitted and was charged with murder shortly after. Her providing us with a place to stay along with her confession effectively closed the case. I am so sorry for your loss.”
But when the officer offered Kelly trauma care, many ITV viewers took to Twitter to question the decision to close the case without any forensic work on the body.
One person asked: “wrong DNA?” as another tweeted: “Is Corrie really going to close the case on Rick’s death without any further forensics??
A third wrote: “Does DNA not exist in Corrie’s world.”
Another posted: “The police haven’t even tested Gary’s DNA on Rick’s body,” as one viewer mused: “Conclusion of the case. You just found the body… Work fast. ”
Many also wrote of their sympathy for Kelly, who broke down in tears after hearing the news, saying of her mother: “I think this is a joke. I think she was just blowing the air on us or something.”
One ITV viewer wrote: “I feel sorry for poor Kelly. I just want to hug her. “
Another said: “Poor Kelly, losing her dad and going to lose her mom!”
Dang Quang Street broadcasts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 pm on ITV channel.
