Coronation Street aired the confession of a double killer that not everyone saw on ITV on Friday night, as Rick Neelan’s murder was finally confirmed.

The hour-long episode begins with Gary Windass, Rick’s killer, trying to get to the body and move it before being discovered.

Rick is buried on the site where builders are doing work on the County’s new soccer field.

Gary was thwarted by a security guard and he soon accepted his fate, when Rick’s ex Laura Neelan confronted him.

Her private investigator had told her there was no trace of Rick, so he was likely dead.

After going missing three years ago, investigators believe that Rick has been killed – and Gary is most likely the culprit.

Things become overwhelming for Gary when Laura tells him what she knows and demands the truth about the disappearance of Rick, the father of daughter Kelly.

In a shocking move, Gary admitted the crime to Laura and shouted: “Okay, you want the truth, I killed him”.

He then explains that it was in self-defense and that Gary was the one intent on dying, with Rick also wanting to kill his then-girlfriend Sarah Platt and her children.

Laura doesn’t believe him exactly despite knowing what kind of person Rick is, and is furious – while she also worries what the truth will do to Kelly.

Gary begs her to let him talk to his partner Maria before she calls the police and she agrees, determining that he must face justice.

Soon after, Laura leaves the apartment and overhears Kelly saying that she has hope for the first time in ages, after being hired by Gary and Maria.

This seems to have changed Laura’s mind about raising Gary, and instead, she made a huge and life-changing decision.

When Gary was about to tell Kelly the truth, he and Maria went back to the apartment to talk to Laura, only to find the police outside.

Gary feared the worst, only to see Laura in handcuffs that confused him.

When Kelly asked the officer what they were doing, he explained that they had arrested her for the murder of her father, Rick.

Kelly begs her mother to tell them they were wrong, but the character sobs instead covers Gary and tells Kelly she’s sorry.

She said, “I’m so sorry love, I had to do it for your sake. I’m so sorry.”

Laura is then brought into the back of a police car after she takes one last look at a bewildered Gary, who realizes that she is responsible for his crimes.

But with Laura’s death, will she take the secret to the grave or will she eventually reveal the truth to Kelly?
