Corrie star Antony Cotton praises armed forces after attending Queen’s funeral

Coronation Street star Antony Cotton praised the members of the armed forces involved in the Queen’s funeral as “nothing magnificent”.

The actor, 47, best known for playing Sean Tully on the series, attended the state service at Westminster Abbey on Monday morning and shared a photo of the service order on Twitter.

A second photo, taken shortly before the funeral, shows him standing with four servicemen in uniform.

He has close links to the forces and was recognized in the Queen’s 2022 birthday honor for his service to the British Army, staff and veterans.

He said: “Wow… where to start?! I had the greatest honor to be invited to the Queen’s funeral.

“So proud to see so many friends working on it, and making the Queen and their country proud. It is a day that I will never forget.”

Cotton quoted the same quote from Hamlet used by the King in his first public broadcast as head of state: “Flights of Angels will sing you rest.. .”

He added: “The men and women in our armed forces today are nothing short of amazing.

“I am so proud of all my friends who have worked to give His Majesty such a wonderful consecration. It is a remarkable service. “

Cotton has been involved in the military community since 2008 and was named the first celebrity ambassador for the military charity Soldiers, Sailors, Aircraft and Families Association (SSAFA).

He is also a patron of Help For Heroes and was named a 2022 SSAFA ambassador for the comprehensive defense category.

The actor’s official association with charities began after a close friend’s return from Afghanistan needed support.

He recently worked alongside the British Army on the mental health and resilience training programme, OPSMART.

Cotton has had a long and varied career and has received various awards for his performance in Coronation Street, including a National Television Award and a British Soap Award for best actor. 2007.

Following the Queen’s death on Thursday 8 September, Cotton wrote on Instagram about meeting her several times, describing each time as “the greatest honor”.
