Bill Roache: The Queen was ‘very attractive’ when I first met her

Bill Roache has reiterated that he was a fan of the Queen when the two first met nearly seven decades ago, and he insisted that she was “very attractive”.

The 90-year-old actor – best known as Ken Barlow on Coronation Street – has previously talked about meeting the 96-year-old monarch for the first time, but revealed more about it recently.

He explained that his first interaction with the Queen was during his time in the army, when he was stationed in Jamaica with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in the mid-1950s.

Not long after her coronation in 1953, when he met the monarch during her tour of the Caribbean – described her as “very attractive” when he met her with colleagues in the military.

Describing her further, he said she was “very young, very alive, very alert and very attractive”, recounting that he met her during lunch at a governor’s house when stationed abroad.
