The Soap Awards returns Sunday night on ITV for an evening that continues the glitz and glamor of the drama after a two-year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event will see the biggest soaps go head-to-head, as host Phillip Schofield returns to hit the red carpet at The Hackney Empire in London.

Soap actors like Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks and Doctors will be vying for the Soap awards as this year sees the award becoming gender-neutral for the first time, with actors including Mark Charnock and Paige Sandhu compete for Best Top Performer.

The ceremony is usually held in London or Manchester in recognition of where the soap is located, with this year London falling for the Hackney Empire welcoming small screen stars to celebrate.

The show is in the safe hands of Phillip’s This Morning, who has led since 2006 and hosted solo since 2009, co-hosting from 2006 to 2008 with former This Morning co-star Fern Britton.

Past hosts include Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, Matthew Kelly, Melanie Sykes and Des O’Connor, and Paul O’Grady.

The awards are divided into viewer votes and panel votes decided by industry experts.

The annual British Soap Awards return on ITV with a brand new public-voted award for Best Family presented at the event.

While the majority of award nominations have been announced ahead of the event, the recipients of two other awards – the Distinguished Achievement Award and the Tony Warren Award – will be announced later tonight.
