Bargain hunters would be forgiven for taking a double at the familiar face behind the charity counter to pack an ao dai.
While many celebrities enjoy the glitz of fame, Opening the street Actress Kimberly Hart-Simpson has gone in a different direction – volunteering at a British Heart Foundation store since October.
“I have been going to their stores near me for years, not just to shop but to chat with the staff because I have become their friend,” Kimberly said. “The charity did a big volunteering because the number of volunteers the store they had was reduced after closing, so I did it on my schedule and it turned out to be a great place. home dear to me.
“I tend to be downstairs in the warehouse, where I can rummage through donations and steam them in preparation for sale, but I’ve also worked on the store floor and talked to customers. arrival is really interesting. You meet the best people. ”
There is also a deep reason behind 35-year-old Kimberly’s work at the BHF store in Manchester, as her sister Emma Simpson, in her forties, was diagnosed with chronic heart disease a few years ago.
And Kimberly says donations to charity helped save her dear sister’s life, as these donations go toward funding scientific research for new drugs and Other treatments for people affected by heart problems.
Emma’s condition, dilated cardiomyopathy, causes the heart muscle walls to stretch and thin, making them weaker. This means that the heart cannot contract properly and struggles to pump blood to the rest of the body, causing symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations.
Kimberly, who spoke with Emma on the BHF podcast The Ticker Tapes in July said: “Coming from a low-income household, BHF is where we always shop and is a big part of the process. our upbringing.
“Then, a few years ago Emma became ill and after a long period of follow-up visits with the doctor she was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy.
“The condition has changed her life – she has so many different symptoms, has good days and bad days but can’t predict when they will come, it can be very frustrating when one day She feels fine but there is nothing she can do. next.
“Thanks to Emma’s experience, that motivated me to use my platform to let everyone know about the charity and that’s a solid motivation for me to continue shopping there.”
Kimberly often shares photos of the BHF charity shop that she bought with the amount of VND 133,000 Instagram followers as a way to promote the organization but also to show her love of sustainable fashion.
“I try not to buy fast fashion,” she said. When I buy clothes made by these retailers, I will pick them up at charity shops so my money will be put to good use and I will save clothes from going to the landfill.
“It is much more sustainable. I understand fast fashion especially for people from low income households who don’t have a lot of money to buy clothes but the solution to it is to go to charity shops where they are cheap and you can still be trending.
“A lot of the things I picked up from them were so new, there were even labels on them.”
Kimberly was born in Rhyl and moved to Oldham, Greater Manchester with her family when she was 16 years old.
Before becoming a professional actress, she was a manager at McDonald’s, worked at a Fitness First gym and also made props and clothing for stage performances.
This was followed by television roles on the Sky Mount Pleasant and Hollyoaks series, but her big break came two years ago when she was cast as sex worker Nicky Wheatley in Coronation Street.
This, she says, was the highlight of her career – especially right before her father Kevin passed away in 2007, he told her to “do me a favor and get Corrie, love.”
Kimberly added: “I’ve done a lot of great things that I’m proud of, but I would definitely say Corrie.
“Continuing to practice soaping is one of my personal life goals, so getting there is something quite special.”
Nicky left Cobbles in September 2020, after ex-boyfriend Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) paid off her debt so she could quit prostitution.

Kimberly said: “Thankfully, Mom is now out of the hospital. “She needs one-on-one care right now, so I am her full-time carer and have her with me.
