There was laughter from tears for Sally Carman as she filmed traumatic birth scenes when she realized her prosthetic baby looked just like Paul McCartney.

The Coronation Street death comes far too soon after Sally’s troubled character Abi Franklin – who didn’t know she was pregnant – goes on a drug gang.

Her unexpected labor begins after she is involved in a car accident.

The tiny baby model made Sally, 40, both happy and sad.

She said: “He had a lot of black hair – I was in hysterics. He turned into Paul McCartney. You are so real.

“They breathe, they have a pump. It’s like a little chicken.

“It’s really hard not to cry because you’re like, ‘My God, babies come this size and they’re so vulnerable.’ It was both intense and hilarious.”

Sally said when producer Iain MacLeod told her about the plot, she couldn’t believe it. “My jaw was on the floor.

She went into labor unexpectedly

“The extremes are so brilliant to play. You can really flex those acting muscles.”

Viewers know attorney Imran Habeeb, who is in a relationship with Toyah Battersby, is the baby’s father after a one-night stand.

Ian says the plot will later take a “shocking” turn, with some “stunning” scenes.

He said: “I think it’s probably the last thing you imagine that’s going to happen at the end of all this. It starts out small and domestic – focuses on mystery and romantic intrigue – but it just builds into this amazing catastrophe.

“I think we’re going to make people fall out of their chairs.”

Sally won the Royal Television Society North West award for Best Performance in a Drama in November.

She said the highlight of her five years at the soap was last year’s conspiracy in which Abi’s eldest son Seb died in a hate attack on his girlfriend. She said: “I was in flux with every script.”.

  • Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm.
