Everyone cares more about how much energy they use and how they can save energy, but do you know which kitchen appliances cost you the most to run?
Uswitch has compiled a list of the most popular items in your kitchen and the cost of running them.
According to USwitch, using the hob is likely to use the most energy and cost the most money, whether you’re using a gas or electric version.
The former uses 9.75kWh, which equates to an annual cost of £143.28, while the latter uses 8.58kWh and costs £126.85 per year. Fridges, freezers and kettles all cost around £75 a year, while the cheapest appliance is an ice maker, which uses 0.035kWh and costs 52p a year.

Top tips to reduce energy consumption
Using most of these devices is unavoidable, so Uswitch has also shared its top tips for reducing energy bills.
- If possible, choose devices with a high energy efficiency class – devices in class A are the most energy-efficient
- Turn off appliances at the plug when not in use
- Turn off the lights when you leave the room
- Swap out halogen bulbs for LED versions that last longer and cost less in the long run
- If possible, set a heating schedule for times when you use certain rooms or know you’re home
