Kirkistown Castle’s Beth Coulter continued her good start to the season as she set a course record of 66 en route to an emphatic 13-stroke victory at the 50th Hermitage Ladies Scratch Cup.
Coulter (18), recently named non-traveling reserve for next month’s Curtis Cup in Merion, made eight birdies in a seven-under-66 in the morning rain to lead by 10 strokes ahead of Grange Castle’s Lisa Cullen.
She shagged second, third and fifth, bogeying the seventh par 3, but then shagged eighth, ninth, 10th and 12th before hitting another shot in 18th.
In the afternoon, she made seven birdies and two bogeys on her first 15 holes to make 12-under, only to double down on the 16th hole. With her three under 70s, she won with 13 shots on 10 under Rossmore’s Kate Dwyer, who finished with a under 72.
The club believe their total of 136 over two rounds is the lowest in the event’s 50-year history.
Coulter’s second round 70 was still the best result of the afternoon from a shot by Douglas’ Clodagh Coughlan, who finished third overall with a four-over.
Coulter’s win was her third of the year after winning the Royal Portrush Scratch Cup and Ulster Women’s Championship at Portstewart.
She finished second at the 2021 R&A Girls’ Amateur Championship and the Irish Women’s Close but maintained success at the Irish Girls’ Close.
