Countdown: Rachel Riley smirks at eight letters

Rachel Riley was visibly surprised by a rude-sounding word brought up on the Countdown board.

The TV presenter, 36, raised an eyebrow when columnist Giles Coren, 52, suggested the word “noshable” for an eight-letter answer.

The word, which means delicious, was found in the dictionary by lexicographer Susie Dent – amusing the blonde beauty as she stood wide-eyed at his answer.

Giles’ discovery comes after Tuesday’s contestants Leigh and Craig could only assemble six-letter words – blouse and enable.

Going to Dictionary Corner, Anne asked her guest if he could improve their efforts – which he clearly did to Rachel’s amusement.

Unlike Rachel, Giles tries to keep a straight face when explaining her words, using the definition: “When you have a nice lunch and it’s not shareable.”

He turned to Susie and asked, “Anything good?”

And to his delight, he was given the green light.

Rachel still seemed impressed by his discovery after the show as she took to Twitter to share the word along with an eye emoji and an emoji of a monkey covering its eyes.

And her fans also appreciate finding and replying to her posts in a fun style.

One user commented: “Wow, that’s the first Rachel – a tweet that no one disagrees with – well done! You won the internet today!”

Another wrote: “I didn’t know nosh had a non-food meaning until I looked it up now, but we learn something everyday with Countdown.”

And a third said: “Obviously that’s the first word that comes to mind.”

Both Susie and Rachel also appeared on the spin-off show 8 Out Of 10 Cats does Countdown and many fans have also joked about how it felt as if the two shows had mixed up during its release.

While she’s received some positive messages, last week Rachel revealed about the continued abuse she’s received on social media.

The puzzle unfolded when she sent dozens of unsolicited sexual videos and images to her social media direct messages and also strangers trying to call her on Instagram.

She went on to reveal other people have sent fake pictures of her face on the bodies of porn stars performing pornographic acts.

The host, who is an ambassador for the Center against Digital Hate, says they’re not doing enough to stop such disgusting behaviour.
