Couple fined for stopping Lexus at a pedestrian crossing before turning on their warning lights and running to the supermarket

A COUPLE have been fined after stopping their Lexus SUV at a crosswalk before turning on the warning lights and driving into a supermarket.

The couple, known as “Mr. and Mrs Privilege’ was ticketed in Barrow, near Loughborough in Leicestershire on Friday after a police officer drove by while they were arguing with people asking them to move.

After stopping the car, the man behind the wheel turned on the hazard lights before heading into the local co-op.

A male passer-by decided to intervene and tell the woman who remained in the car that they could not stop there, claiming he encountered backlash and personal abuse before the police officer drove by Leicester Mercury reports.

Steve Pledger described the events in a post on the Spotted Barrow-Upon-Soar Facebook page.

Since then it has received more than 230 comments and over 1,000 likes.

He wrote: “Met a lovely couple in the village today. I didn’t catch their names, but let’s call them Mr and Mrs Privilege.

“Parked their nice expensive Lexus SUV on the crosswalk in front of the Coop, turned on the dangers while Mr P just pulled into the Coop leaving Mrs Privilege in the car.

“I noticed a woman crossing the street and we both went to the car and told her firmly but politely that they couldn’t park there.

“We were confronted with quite colorful language and she was very upset and angry that she was being questioned.

“What did that have to do with us and who did we think we should tell her what to do? I even kindly pointed to the car park right next to the shop and told her to park there, not on a 12:50 crossing on a busy Friday. “He’s just going to withdraw some money!” she protested. “We’re all *just* doing something,” I replied.

“She told me she was going to report me and took a picture of me. I told her my name and even posed for the photo with a double thumbs up and a big, friendly smile.

“Another lady came and shared my opinion and also told her very respectfully that they couldn’t park there.”

While Mr Pledger was engaged in the altercation with the woman in the SUV, a police car drove by and was stopped.

As it approached the improperly parked car, the driver returned to the Lexus.

The post added: “They started bombarding him with their outrage, pointing at me and clearly trying to report my behavior, whatever that was.

“Anyway the lovely Mr. Rural Policeman gave them a ticket, fine and a stiff talk, nodded at me, smiled, checked I was ok and thanked.

“Mr. Privilege got back in his car, drove off, and then stopped by me, gave me a handful of choice names (pretty strong language considering he was a seemingly well-off Lexus driver, told me his wife made me cry (she wasn’t crying, she was just as outraged as he was).”

Mr Pledger also claimed the passenger then threatened him on behalf of the driver, saying, according to the Post: “If we weren’t in the middle of the High Street he would get out and sort [him] out,” to which Mr. Pledger replied, “Funny, you didn’t mind stopping here a few minutes ago…”

Some commenters said the post was a “great read,” and one even called it “the best post on this site since the day it was created.”

Others credited those involved for reaching out to “Mr. and Mrs. Privilege”.
