Kieron Buxton, 50, and wife Helen, 51, vowed to get in shape to overcome health problems after eating fried breakfasts, cookies, takeaways and beer
A pair of super skinny have lost a whopping 27 stone together after they wholeheartedly promised each other on Valentine’s Day.
Kieron Buxton, 50, and wife Helen, 51, vowed to get in shape to overcome health problems.
The couple, who have been married for 16 years, used to eat fried breakfasts, cookies, takeaways and beer.
Kieron, a mental health charity worker, was nearly 30 years old and so tall he couldn’t even put his own socks on.
He and Helen, who weighed almost 18.5, decided to get well after Kieron was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
The Nottingham couple joined Slimming World on February 14, 2020, just weeks before lockdown, and have since lost 27.8 pounds – the equivalent of a baby elephant.
Now they have been named Slimming World’s Couple of the Year.
Since losing 19.7, Kieron has even cured his diabetes.
He said: “Being inactive, wearing 5XL shirts and asking for seat belt extenders was just normal life for me.
“I knew that type 2 diabetes was often related to weight, so it was a big wake-up call for me.”
Helen lost 8th place and went from a size 26 to a size 12 and saw her rheumatoid arthritis improve.
She said: “The difference in our lives is really amazing – it’s like the whole world has opened up. At 50, life really began for us.”
